May is Whisky Month in Scotland. As good news goes, that’s as heart warming to us as spring sunshine. Of course, this being Scotland, most of May so far has been marred by rain and wind. A quick perusal of our single malt list reveals a selection of 53 Scotch whiskies, plus various whisky cocktails, so we like to think there is a drink for everyone. If you have been feeling the chill over the last few grey days, then a warming sherried dram of GlenDronach 18 year old could be just the business; it’s a favourite of our Chef Patron Geoff. For a bright sunny day then perhaps a frisky little Highlander like Glenglassaugh Evolution would be more to your taste.

Excellent as Scotch whisky is by itself it isn’t the only way to enjoy it by any means. Whisky Cocktails may not be for the purists, but they offer a very tasty way to explore a great variety of flavours and aromas. Two of our favourite signature cocktails here at The Peat Inn are the ‘Glowing Embers’ and ‘John Cor’. With its rich combination of Douglas Laings Big Peat, Drambuie and Maraschino liqueur, Glowing Embers is not for the faint hearted, but this beast will certainly warm you up and help shrug off those May showers. Its counterpart the John Cor is more of a sweet surprise and ideal as an after dinner cocktail: served ice cold and garnished with orange, it combines Lindores Distillery Aqua Vitae, Crème de Cacao blanc and chocolate bitters is for those who maybe want to try something new or simply have a sweet tooth.
